Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland has welcomed a baby L’Hoest’s monkey which is currently about 1 month old. This week keeper’s captured and shared their first photos of the young monkey.
At present they have been unable to determine the gender of the monkey but once they do it will receive a name.
Jennifer Appleyard, animal keeper at Edinburgh Zoo, said, “Our baby L’Hoest’s monkey was born in May and has been clinging to mum Sheli so we’re not sure yet whether we have a new little boy or girl.”
“Once we know, hopefully in the coming weeks, we’ll name the youngster.”
The L’Hoest’s monkey is the baby of mother Sheli. “Sheli is a first-time mum and has been very protective of her newborn, but she has taken to motherhood like a duck to water and seems to love it,” said Jennifer.

After closing to help prevent the spread of covid-19 Edinburgh Zoo has reopened and the baby monkey is on show for visitors to meet.
“We’re all really excited about our new addition and we’re so glad to be able to welcome visitors back to meet our new arrival too,” finished Jennifer.
The zoo only reopened on June 29 and still faces a difficult time as they return to full operation. Donations can be made on their website to support the care of their animal’s.
