As the mercury across Adelaide soared to 38°C (100.4°F) the animals were kept cool at Adelaide Zoo and Monarto Safari Park with showers from their keepers.
These showers keep them cool during the hot spell.
Animals enjoying a shower at Adelaide Zoo included Oscar, the lesser sooty owl who was able to shake his feathers in the water. Pygmy hippo Obi meanwhile was given a shower by keeper Jade and said thanks by ‘booping’ the camera.

The animals at Monarto Safari Park didn’t miss out either. Uhura the southern white rhinoceros was hosed down by keepers and can be seen galloping up to keepers to enjoy the refreshing water.
These showers are part of the enrichment program which helps to ensure the wellbeing of animals at Zoos SA each day. These enrichment activities vary from cooling showers to icy blood treats and frozen fruits or vegetables.
