In October last year we introduced you to Botzman the Amur tiger when he moved to Highland Wildlife Park in Scotland. This week love was in the air as he met resident female Dominika. The pair were caught on camera coming together for the first time.
Keepers at the Scottish Wildlife Sanctuary began introducing them carefully following Botmans arrival in November and after seeing promising behavioral cues they were brought together last week.

Since they were introduced keepers have been encouraged by how well the couple are getting along and are hopeful that soon they will welcome cubs as part of the European endangered species breeding programme (EEP). During the introduction a number of encouraging signs including calling, scent marking and the female rolling on her back.
While Dominika is in season keepers will allow the pair to spend the day together.
It is hoped that their breeding will help to increase the numbers of Amur tigers. As few as 500 of them are thought to remain in the wild. These survive in isolated areas around the Amur river valley in the far east of Russia and along China’s north east border.
