The Amur tiger cubs at Highland Wildlife Park in Scotland have taken their first steps outside this morning under the watchful eye of mom.
Last week the cubs received their first health checks and vaccinations and as such were ready to explore the wider world. The cubs are two females and one female.
Starting Monday July 26th 2021 visitors may be lucky enough to see the cubs outside. Since their birth in May the cubs have been spending their time in a cubbing den with Dominika and have not been visible to guests.

In the future it is expected that the cubs will be introduced to dad Botzman.
Keith Gilchrist, animal collection manager at Highland Wildlife Park, said, “At ten weeks old, our cubs are getting braver and more playful every day, with their personalities already starting to develop. It is lovely to see just how excited our visitors are to meet them.”
“Given how young they are, they won’t be allowed outside for the whole day and will likely only be out for short bursts, followed by long naps indoors.”

Two donors to the zoo will be given the chance to name the female cubs while the male will be named through a public poll run on the zoo’s social media platforms. Keepers are seeking help to decide between the names Aleksander and Dimtri.
“Aleksander was chosen as the cubs were born on carnivore keeper Alex’s birthday and Dimitri is a Russian name meaning earth-lover after Greek goddess Demeter,” added Gilchrist.
