Animals Enjoy Popcorn Day at Brookfield Zoo

January 19, was National Popcorn Day, and in celebration of the event, a few of the animals at Brookfield Zoo received the tasty snack. Here, Kamba, a western lowland gorilla, holds her hands out as the popcorn is released from timed feeders in the zoo’s Tropic World: Africa habitat.

The animals at Brookfield Zoo celebrated National popcorn day on January 19th 2022 with some air-popped treats. Keepers treated the gorillas, tapirs and chickens to the treats.
For the gorillas their food rained down from timed feeders located in their habitat at Tropic World: Africa. The feeders are part of the enrichment program which the zoo run for their animals. The timed feeders are used to encourage behaviors by the the gorilla troop.

Elsewhere in the zoo lowland tapirs, Sonny and Sorghum snacked on popcorn while a Polish chicken named Imelda sought out mealworms hidden among the popcorn.
National popcorn day celebrates the famous snack. The United States is said to be the top country for popcorn consumption.
