A white-naped crane known as Cora at the Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is set to achieve fame as she features on the latest episode of Animal Planet series THE ZOO.
Cora hatched at the Bronx Zoo in 2020. From birth she was filmed to feature in a segment during the fifth season of THE ZOO. This program features the work of the Bronx Zoo and its sister parks across the city of New York.
The arrival of Cora to Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo went smoothly. As she was just seven months old at her arrival here introduction to the resident male was delayed until summer 2021. Now guests can view the pair together in their habitat.

Zoo Director Gregg Dancho said, “Cora is a beautiful new addition and contributes to the Zoo’s demonstration of the rich biodiversity in nature. We continually look for new and unusual species to educate and delight our guests that also meet our mission of wildlife conservation.”
Season five of THE ZOO premiered on October 9th 2021 and Cora will feature on the episode set to screen on Saturday October 30 at 9 PM ET/PT.
An estimated 5,000 white-naped cranes remain in their native habitat across Asia leading the International Union for the Conservation of Nature to list them as vulnerable.
Facilities such as Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo which are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums have been working to return surplus white-naped crane eggs to Russia where they are released to the wild.
