Edinburgh Zoo Offer A Peak in the Pouch at Koala Joey

Edinburgh Zoo have released a rare image of the United Kingdom’s only koala joey as it grows up in its mother pouch. The joey was born on June 26th to first time mom, Kalari and dad Tanami.

It will still be a few months before the joey is old enough to be seen by visitors when it will move on to its mother’s back.

Edinburgh Zoo are home to the only Queensland koalas to live in the United Kingdom.

In the coming months keepers will weigh, sex and name the joey.

Koalas come from Australia and are considered vulnerable on the IUCN red list. They are threatened by habitat loss, wildfires and climate change.
