Mother Keke came to Taronga Zoo Sydney after being rescued in 2012. She had been found with injuries from a boat strike in Sydney Harbor. After prolonged treatment at the Taronga Zoo Wildlife Hospital she was deemed unsuitable for release.
Since then she has become a beloved member of the Taronga Zoo family. She also makes regular appearances in Taronga’s Seals for the Wild presentation which is presented by Red Energy.

Currently mother and pup are bonding in the purpose built seal pup nursery which is an off-display area. Seal pups are not born knowing how to swim and as such the pair will remain here till Keke has taught her daughter to swim.
While this seal pup is currently off display visitors to Taronga Zoo Sydney can meet Amalie, a 5 month old Australian sea lion pup.
