After welcoming their first giraffes in 15 years on May 11th 2021 Edinburgh Zoo have already grown their herd. Two additional giraffes, Fennessey and Gerald joined Ronnie and Arrow on the evening of Wednesday May 12th.
The newly formed herd have wasted no time in exploring their new habitat which features some of the best views out over the city of Edinburgh.
It is expected that the new giraffe house at Edinburgh Zoo will be open to the public by mid-June though visitors may see these animals in their outside area due to their large size before this date.

Fennessey was named after the co-founders of the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF), Julian and Stephanie Fennessy. Edinburgh Zoo have partnered with the GCF and Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky to bring giraffes back to Edinburgh.
At Edinburgh Zoo the new herd will be formed entirely from Nubian giraffes which are also known as Rothschild giraffes.
The herd is not done growing yet. Another male is expected to join the herd over the weekend which will complete the new group.
