Brevard Zoo are looking for assistance to name their bongo calf born on October 18th 2021. The calf was born to a first time mother, Clover. At the time of the birth Clover was described as a natural mom.
The father of the calf was resident male, Sebastian. He was matched with Clover as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Eastern bongo Species Survival Plan. The program matches animals in accredited zoos to ensure the population retains its genetic diversity.
Now the zoo are ready to select a name for the calf and are looking for help from the public. Keepers have selected three names, Sage, Nutmeg and Ginger in line with his mom’s spice themed names.
Voting runs until January 25th 2022 at 5pm and funds from the vote will support animal care at the zoo. Cast your vote here – Bongo Name Vote

The eastern bongo is listed as critically endangered due to habitat loss and poaching. They are native only to Kenya in Africa.
At the Brevard Zoo you can meet the species on the Cape to Cairo Express electric train, which takes guests throughout their expansive habitat.
