Just in time for Australia Day a kangaroo joey has been caught taking her first hops at the Australian Reptile Park on the Central Coast of Australia. To recognize the true blue Australian spirit keepers have named the joey Tim Tam.

With Australia Day coming up it was perfect timing for the joey to emerge from Mom’s pouch and meet her keepers and visitors for the first time. The big step was no easy feat for the joey but the hard part is now over and Tim Tam can enjoy hopping around for the rest of her life.

The small joey is capturing hearts at the Australian Reptile Park as she is still a bit wobbly on her tiny feet while she is learning to explore the park’s free-range kangaroo area. Currently she doesn’t tend to stray far from mom but as she gets more confident she will begin to explore more.

The Australian Reptile Park’s General Manager Tim Faulkner says “I love when we start to see Kangaroo joeys begin to pop out of the pouch, and we’ve seen a few others popping their heads out of pouches over the past few weeks! It’s always so exciting when they take the great big leap from Mums pouch, and what a time to do it – just in time for Australia Day!”
