Koala Celebrates Sweet Sixteenth at WILD LIFE Sydney

Faith the koala has celebrated an impressive milestone at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo in Australia as she celebrated her sweet sixteenth birthday party.

Keepers ensured the golden girl who is considered the oldest and wisest koala at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo was treated on her birthday. As part of her party they provided her with a eucalyptus ice cake. Unfortunately as is typical for a koala she slept through much of her birthday song waking only for the last few lines.

Koalas in the wild have an average lifespan of 12 years making Faiths age highly impressive. It is a testament to the care she receives from keepers and vets at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo.

“We can’t believe Faith is already 16 years old!” said Ashley Wombey, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo Head Keeper. “She is doing really well for an older girl and we hope to celebrate more birthdays with her in the coming years.”

Faith came to WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo in 2006 from Hamilton Island. During her residency she has become a mother, then grandmother and eventually a great grandmother. This included last year when she added another three grandbabies to her family.

Faith has been enjoying her mature years at Koala Rooftop where she can sleep the day away. Keepers report that she is big on personal space and will vocalize if other kolas try to approach her.
