Keepers at the Australian Reptile Park have celebrated the 10th birthday of their Komodo Dragon Kraken. The large lizard received a special treat for his birthday, a meat-filled piñata!

Visitors to the park were able to watch the lizard tear in to his special treats and he followed this up with a walk around the park to meet his adoring fans.

Kraken is the largest lizard housed at the Australian Reptile Park and keepers expect he will have grown even further at his next health check in November.

Currently he measures an impressive 2.42ft (7.9ft) long and weighs in at 38kg (84lbs).

Komodo dragon’s are the largest lizards on Earth. They grow to measure between 2 and 4m (6.6-13.4ft) long with an average weight of 100kg (220lbs).

Head of Reptiles, Daniel Rumsey said, “I feel a bit naughty saying this, but Kraken is honestly my favourite animal here at the Park, we have such a special bond and I take every chance I can to spend time with him!”

My Rumsey continued, “He is so intelligent and loves the attention he gets on his daily walks. We worked hard to make this birthday extra special, and I can tell he loved every second!”

Visitors to the Australian Reptile Park can meet Kraken on his daily walk or you can get even closer during an up-close encounter.
