Little orang RJ goes on exhibit at the Metro Richmond Zoo

Orangutan

The Metro Richmond Zoo has put their baby orangutan RJ on exhibit. Parents Tasha and Rory welcomed the little baby earlier in the year. While it was cooler he was housed in an indoor enclosure but as it begins to warm up he has been venturing outside each day with mum and dad.

RJ will not lose his mum due to the tight group which he will maintain on Tasha for the four years that she cares for him. It will be 7-8 years before she has another infant.

Orangutan is Indonesian for “person of the forest.” These apes are one of the world’s most intelligent species. They are endangered due to deforestation for palm oil plantations and poaching.Orangutan
