The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland have announced the name of their three tiger cubs born at Highland Wildlife Park in May.
Recently the cubs had their first chance to explore outside and the zoo announced a public poll to decide the name for the male cub. The two female cubs had been named by donors who support the zoo’s conservation work.
Following this vote they are pleased to introduce the world to Nishka, Layla and Aleksander.

The name Nishka means jewel while Layla means night. Aleksander was named in tribute to a keeper at Highland Wildlife Park who shares their birthday with the triplets. All of the names are in tribute to the specie’s native home in Russia.
As the cubs have now had their first health check and vaccinations the cubs are being given regular outdoor access meaning visitors to the park could spot the triplets exploring outside.
Mother Dominika has been providing excellent care to her cubs. She previously gave birth in 2013 so is an experienced mother.
