The penguins at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium have gotten in to the Christmas spirit with keepers providing some special holiday themed enrichment. This included the seven gentoo penguin chicks which have joined the colony recently.
These two month old chicks enjoyed chasing after and pecking the green and red baubles which slid across the ice.

“For Christmas, we wanted to treat our penguin chicks to a new type of enrichment that would stimulate their minds and expose to them to something new,” said Kerrie Dixon, SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium Penguin Carer. “As expected, the babies were hesitant with the baubles at first but quickly came around to enjoy their Christmas treat.”

The penguin chicks hatched at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium in early and mid-November. Among the chicks is the second hatchling for same-sex penguin couple Sphen and Magic. Their chick is increasingly independent but still enjoys cuddles from the parents.
