A red panda cub is the latest arrival this year at Newquay Zoo. He joins a range of other babies born at Newquay Zoo over the past months including a civet kitten which we covered recently. You can meet him here – Incredibly Rare Owston’s Civet Kitten born at Newquay Zoo
The female red panda cub was born on June 15th while the zoo was closed due to Covid-19. Keepers have selected the name Emma for the cub.
The parents of the cub are mom Zou who is 10 and was born in France while the father is 9 year old Germaine who came from Germany. They are first time parents.

At present the cub is spending time with mom in the nest box. She is described as a ‘big ball of fluff’ and relies on mom’s milk. At birth the cub’s fur was entirely white though this is darkening to the red of an adult as she grows.
While the cub currently relies on milk to grow she will soon transition on to bamboo.

At Newquay Zoo the panda family can be found at the center of the zoo. Keepers recommend looking up as they often spend their day’s high up in the trees.’
