The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) is celebrating a massive milestone with $2 million in funding having been received from the People’s Postcode Lottery since 2014.
RZSS manage Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park in Scotland.
Funds from this have helped to fund a range of new developments and conservation works at the zoo. This includes the Sumatran tiger habitat. To mark the occasion keepers treated Sumatran tiger Dharma to boxes filled with delicious treats.
The Sumatran tiger is native to the Indonesian Island of Sumatra and is critically endangered with as few as 340 to 500 thought to remain in the wild. Breeding project such as those at the RZSS Edinburgh Zoo are helping to secure a future for this threatened species.
