SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium have introduced the latest addition to their gentoo penguin colony just in time for Christmas.
Keepers have named the chick Charlie. He is the second chick welcomed to father Pink Lady and mother Winnie. They have already proved to be the perfect parents for their little chick.
Currently Charlie is most often seen running around after mom and dad looking for food.

SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium Penguin Keeper Kiera Ponting said, “Charlie is an adorable addition to the colony – born last month at just 90g, Charlie already weighs 3.5kg and is reporting well above average on the penguin chick growth curves. We think Charlie gets their love of food from dad (Pink Lady), who is one of the bigger penguins in the colony! Charlie is also quite sassy but still very affectionate – just like mum (Winne).
“We can see this as Charlie regularly bows to its parents – which is an adorable sign of
affection in penguin language!” added Ponting.
Currently Charlie is feeding on fish. Unfortunately before providing food to the penguins keepers must check there is no plastic in them. Unfortunately plastic pollution is now threatening birds in the wild and in captivity.
At SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium Charlie will act as an ambassador for his species and the threats they face. Guests will be able to meet him in the Sub-Antarctic penguin habitat this summer.
