An exhibition of photographs is about to get underway at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo in the United Kingdom and the shots are amazing. The temporary exhibition features photos from the annual Animal Photograph Prize run by ZSL which was judged by Bill Oddie and Kate Humble.
This year’s top prize went to this amazing image of a panther chameleon by Simone Sbaraglia. It took days for him to capture this perfect shot which he hopes will connect people with nature. He explained, “I spent a significant amount of time trying to learn the animal’s behaviour to try and anticipate this moment. I hope that when people see it they are amazed by this animal and learn to love and respect it.”
Other photos displayed in the exhibition include a black and white close up of a mighty orangutan and a Gentoo penguin which is leaping over the waves.
This is the third year the prize has run and it has six categories which people can compete in. Events manager for ZSL, Victoria Sage said, “The winning pictures in the 2014 ZSL Animal Photography Prize are quite simply some of the most incredible images we’ve seen yet.”
“We had a huge variety of entries from around the world, and the judges, including ornithologist BillOddie and television presenter Kate Humble, had their work cut out to select the winning shots,” she added.
If you are inspired to take a magical shot there is still time to enter the competition in 2015. Entrants are in with a chance to win part of the £10 thousand prize fund. You will also have a chance that your photo is displayed at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo or ZSL London Zoo.
