1. Bengal tigers may eat up to 40kg (88lbs) of meat in a single meal. Any food they do not consume may be buried under ground and they will come back over a few days to consume the rest of their meal.

2. Tigers are the largest member of the big cat family. Of the six surviving tiger subspecies the Bengal tiger sits in the middle for size. They can measure up to 3m (10ft) long and weigh 225kg (500lbs).

3. India and Bangladesh both have the Bengal tiger as their national animal. In Bangladesh they feature on money.
4. While Bengal tigers are still endangered they are the most common tiger subspecies. Over half of all tigers remaining in the wild are Bengal tigers.

5. Bengal tigers make a range of vocalizations. One of the most recognized is the roar which can be heard as much as 3.2km (2miles) away.
