The San Antonio Zoo in North America are offering a unique way to forget your ex this Valentine’s Day. The Cry Me a Cockroach Fundraiser aims to make San Antonio Zoo the city of love.
If you’re looking to forget a former flame or meet a new one the San Antonio Zoo have a great range of options this year.
In their third edition of the fundraiser the zoo are allowing guests to name a cockroach, rat or vegetable after an ex. It will then be fed to one of the zoo’s animals. During the 2021 promotion the zoo saw 3,500 supporters name an animal coming from 30 countries and representing 2,000 cities from all US states.

“We are very excited to bring back this Valentine’s favorite to exes from all over the world,” said Tim Morrow, President & CEO of San Antonio Zoo.
“The Cry Me a Cockroach Fundraiser is a perfect way to rid that negative energy and contribute to securing a future for wildlife in doing so. The cockroaches used and humanely pre-frozen rodents are already part of the animals’ typical diets. These cockroaches and rats really are the unsung heroes of the food chain.”
The fundraiser will run from now through until February 14th 2022. Proceeds from the fundraiser help the zoo to secure a future for wildlife.
