Three Little Pigs Enjoy Their First Adventure Outside

A trio of warthog piglets born at Zoo Atlanta on April 13th 2021. This week the 7 week old piglets took their first adventures in to the outdoor habitat the Zoo’s African Savanna habitat.
Mother Eleanor has been doing a great job caring for her piglets. Their adventures outside are mostly determined by her protective nature. As such it is not currently guaranteed that you will see the piglets out on exhibit.

Keepers have determined that all of the piglets are females. Their next big milestone will be to meet father Hamlet. This is his first litter with Hamlet.
Warthogs are native to sub-Saharan areas of Africa. Their populations are declining due to drought, desertification and habitat loss. Despite this they are resilient to human activities.

The warthog family are part of the new African savanna habitat. Here they live alongside habitats for elephants, giraffe, zebra, ostrich and southern white rhinos.
Zoo Atlanta has had a successful year for births with a range of other babies joining the warthog piglets. These include an Angolan colobus infant; twin golden lion tamarins; a crowned lemur infant; a hooded vulture chick; golden-breasted starling chicks; a tawny frogmouth chick; and a lappet-faced vulture chick.
