Tiger cubs celebrate their first birthday at London Zoo

ZSL London Zoo has thrown a party for their three endangered tiger cubs. The trio of cubs were born on the 3rd of February 2014 to mum Melati and dad Jae Jae.

The cubs began life as  1.5kg bundles of fluff and have now grown into almost fully sized tigers. Originally they could only be seen via TV monitor but now are out exploring London Zoo’s tiger habitat, Tiger Territory, most days.

The three cubs are known as Budi which means wise, Nakal which means mischievous and Cinta which means love.

As part of their birthday celebrations the cubs were given a number of large boxes to play with. When it comes to boxes tigers love to play just as much as you average house cat.

Mum melati was straight into the fun eating all the treats. These cubs are a bit shy though taking a few hours to get used to the boxes and finally dive into play with them.

Another fun activity for the cubs this week was the first experiences with snow. Some of the cubs were even seen chasing snowflakes.
