The Toronto Zoo have announced a vote to name the Amur tiger cub born at the zoo in May. This naming vote is being supported by Giant Tiger with the Toronto Star as the media sponsor.
Toronto Zoo will announce the selected name for the cubs on Thursday July 29th 2021. This day is recognized as International Tiger Day. You can see the potential names in the infographic below.
Mother, Mazyria affectionately known by keepers as “Mazy” gave birth after a 104 day pregnancy to three cubs. Unfortunately two of these cubs passed away due to two different medical conditions.
This third cub is continuing to thrive and regularly nurses from mom which has given keepers hope she will survive in to the future.

Mother, Mazy is one of the oldest Amur tigers within the AZA Species Survival Plan (SSP) population to have given birth at 14 years old. She was born at Granby Zoo in 2007. The father Vasili was born at the Calgary Zoo in 2021.
The pair were matched as part of the Amur Tiger SSP a program which seeks to ensure the ongoing genetic health of the Amur tiger population in human care, safeguarding genetic diversity that may have been lost in the wild during the 20th century.
If you can’t get enough of the #TOTigerCub make sure to follow the Toronto Zoo on social media to keep up with her growth and development.
