Toronto Zoo Zebra Foal is Ready for a Name

Toronto Zoo is looking for your help to decide the name for their latest arrival, a male Grevy’s zebra foal. The foal arrived on the morning of Tuesday December 1st 2020.
Currently the foal is referred to as #BBZeeBee.

Keepers want you to channel the force and, in keeping with their naming tradition, help select a Star Wars inspired name for the foal. They have selected four names which you can vote on – Anakin, Aryn, Ben and Poe. Voting is open from Tuesday, December 15, 2020 through Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 11:59 pm

This name will follow in the tradition of previous foals which have been named – Luke, Leia, Rey and Obi.
The foal has been born as part of the Grevy’s Zebra Species Survival Plan (SSP) and helps to increase the representation of father, Jakes genetics in the captive zebra population. This is the fourth foal for mother Tori and the fifth for Jake.

Grevy’s zebra are listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. They are threatened by habitat loss, competition with livestock and poaching.
Toronto Zoo support the species survival plan for this species and contribute to conservation work which assists this species in the wild.
