Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, USA are hosting a virtual baby shower for their infant western lowland gorilla. The infant was born on January 29th 2021 to mother Nadiri with the father being known as Kwame.
The virtual baby shower will allow guests to make a gift which will support gorillas both at the zoo and in the wild. Woodland Park Zoo support gorillas in the wild through the Mondika Gorilla Project and Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

Items which the zoo may fund through the shower range from $25 for two bottle kits to feed the newborn through to $1000 for an extra day of keeper time to monitor the wellness of mother and baby.
Nadiri’s infant has required additional care as she did not immediately pick up and nurse her newborn. Nadiri was partially hand-reared herself and it is thought that this contributed to her lack of maternal instinct.

This newborn is a female. Keepers have been working round the clock to bottle feed the infant, keep her warm and have been providing short visitors with Nadiri. As a result of these visits Nadiri is now with her mother full-time.
While she has started to nurse from mom keepers are still providing supplementary bottle feeds.
