Ruby and Rose the red pandas have moved in to their new home at Zoo Atlanta this week. The two sisters arrived in Georgia from Zoo Knoxville in Tennessee on February 23rd 2023. Since their arrival the pair have been in an off display area while renovations were undertaken to their habitat.

At present they are settling in to their new home and as such sightings of the dynamic duo are not guaranteed.

Before the new arrivals moved in extensive renovations were performed to the zoo's red panda habitat. These include natural perches which will allow the tree-dwelling pandas to move through their habitat without coming to the ground. They also will have access to enlarged indoor house which is climate controlled.

These animals are known for their gorgeous red coats which are nicknamed the 'fire fox.'

Red pandas are threatened in the wild due to habitat loss and poaching for their pelts or the illegal wildlife trade.

Zoo Atlanta support the conservation of red pandas in the wild through their Mabel Dorn Reeder Conservation Endowment Fund. Funding from Zoo Atlanta works to counteract habitat loss by enabling continued support of the Red Panda Network’s reforestation nursery in Jaubari, Nepal.
